Mynydd Y Garn Fawr Guided Walk
Sat 24th November 2018 starting at 10.00 a.m.
Meet at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre.
A fairly strenuous walk of about 9.5 km (6 miles), suitable for older children, but not recommended for young children or people with limited mobility. This walk climbs past old coal and iron workings to Keeper's Pond and the Foxhunter Car Park (alternative start point: SO263107), before following the ridge of Mynydd y Garn Fawr, passing the Bronze-Age cairn Carn y Defaid and eventually descending to join the Llanofer Road, which we follow back to the World Heritage Centre.
The going on this walk can get quite wet and soggy, so appropriate footwear is essential.
No dogs allowed.
Please note: the route of this guided walk may vary depending on the conditions of the terrain and weather.
BWHEG GUIDED WALKS PROGRAMME
Some walks will be best for reasonably fit adults, but many will be suitable for older children or people with limited mobility. They will range in distance from 5 to 10 km (3 - 6 miles).
Most walks will start from the Blaenavon World Heritage Centre, usually at 10.00 a.m., with a few afternoon walks starting at 2.00 p.m. Where an alternative start point is given, this indicates an intermediate point on the walk with car parking nearby.
Please wear appropriate footwear and be prepared in case of wet weather.
